Short Upper mustang trekking offers immense opportunity for trekkers to Experience the remote area mountain life, their culture, their History and so many other Local interesting things. Upper Mustang Trek is also known as a last Forbidden kingdom of Nepal. This trip begins from kathamndu than continuously Pokhara-Jomsom- Kagbeni than beautiful historical Upper Mustang.

Trekking during spring season

The Short Upper Mustang Trekking will lead you to the last forbidden Kingdom of Nepal. It leads through the undisturbed and isolated Trans-Himalayan region. This trek was only in 1991 opened to the public and is highly protected. The entire trek belongs to the Annapurna conservation area, in the north of Nepal. The second option is from the Ghorepani Poon Hill trekking route, Mardi Himal & Annapurna base camp which are less risk area for mountain sickness.

The Short Upper Mustang trek has no particular travel season and can be done all year around. For the 2018 – 2019 season we are arranging the Upper Mustang Trekking in the months of March, April, May, June, July, August, September, October, November and December. While trekking the Upper Mustang Trail, you will enjoy the Panorama of the Dhaulagiri (8167m), Annapurna (8091 m), Manaslu Range (8,163 m). Lo-Mangthang is the capital of Upper Mustang, surrounded by Villages which are mostly Inhabited by Tibetan Buddhists. The many different Monasteries you can see at the Trek go back far before the 15th century.

The mystical region of Upper Mustang stands out with those ancient Monasteries and Chhortens. Still today, many local people celebrate their Festivals in those Monasteries. One of those festivals is the Teej. It has preserved its wonderful tradition over many Centuries. Another Magnificent Experience is the many ancient Caves, Holy Fossil Rocks, deserted land territories and Cliffs.

You can begin with the attractive Valleys on the Upper Mustang trekking trail from different starting points, such as from Beshishahar, Manang, the Annapurna Circuit, and Throng-La pass (5416 m) trekking trail.

The third and last possibility is by flying into Jomsom from the Pokhara Airport.

Kagbeni is the gateway to short Upper Mustang trekking. From here the trail continues through Chele, Syangbochen, Tcharang, Ghyami, Ghiling, Lo- Mangthang and ends back in Jomsom again.

Day 01: Arrive at Kathmandu.

Day 02: Kathmandu City tour.

Day 03: Kathmandu to Pokhara drive by Bus.

Day 04: Fly to Jomsom (2,713 m) and trek to Kagbeni (2,810 m)- 3 hours walking

Day 05: Trek to Chele (3,050 m/10,004 ft)- 5 hrs walking

Day 6: Trekking from Syanbiche to Ghami (3520 m/11,545 ft)- about 6 hours walking

Day 8: Ghami to Tsarang ( 3620 m/11873 ft)- 6 hours walking

Day 9: Trek to Lo-Manthang(3730m/12234ft)- 4 hours walking

Day 10: Acclimatization at L0-Manthang

Day 11: Trekking from Lo-Manthang to Drakmar(3800m/12490ft)- about 7 hours walk,

Day 12: Trek to Ghiling (3806 m/12480 ft)- about 6 hours walking

Day 13: Trekking to Chhuksang(3050m/10000ft)-6 hours walking

Day 17: Final departure

Day 01: Arrive at Kathmandu.

As per the itinerary, we will be waiting for you in the Kathmandu airport with your name which is an easy way to catch you up there and our airport representative will drop you to your hotel by private transport. when you check in at the hotel we will meet you again to talk about the trip again just to make you assured everything.

Day 02: Kathmandu city tour.

Our guide will show you the most beautiful and popular sites of Kathmandu city. you will have about 4 to 5 hours tour in a private transport and our guide will explain to you the art, history, religion. traditions and customs of Nepal and Hindu people. after your shortening sightseeing tour our driver will drop to your hotel or any location you want to step out. overnight stay at the same hotel in Kathmandu.

Day 03: Kathmandu to Pokhara drive by Bus.

We will have early bus ride this day after we finish breakfast in the hotel you have to be ready at 6:30 am than our guide will pick up you and drop you to the bus station.  it is 200 km drive to the west of Kathmandu along the Trisuli river and beautiful rice field. it takes about 7 hours with a two-time break for food and resting time.  when we reach in Pokhara you can have rest and shower then we go to walk along the Phewa lake by foot which is cool and you can explore Pokhara little bit.

Day 04: Fly to Jomsom (2,713 m) and trek to Kagbeni (2,810 m)- 3 hours walking

This day we have to weak up early again because we will have to take an early plane which is safe comparatively because Jomsom area is one of the windiest places of Nepal so if we fly before 10 to 11 it will be great so it is 25 minute flight and we are already in Jomsom which is headquarter of Mustang district. we have to walk 3 hours to 4 hours maximum to Kagbeni from Jomsom along the bank of Kali Gandaki river via Eklebhatti. Kagbeni is an old Thakali village where you can visit Gompa, Mani wall

Day 05: Trek to Chele (3,050 m/10,004 ft)- 5 hrs walking

We start our walk in the morning after we get checked in our permit than we follow Kali Gandaki river valley which is wide but windy till we walk up steeply. we will pass a beautiful Tagbe village and some crops field as well as dry brown mountains. after we pass Tagbe village we follow a small trails continue to the next small village through apple orchids and white field after that we go to the other side of the hill over the bridge and we reach on the ridge than after we will arrive Chele Village where we will spend the night in the tea house.

Trekking to Syanbochen today going to be slightly difficult because we should walk over two pass Taklam pass( 3625 m) and Dajori pass (3730 m). After we passed those beautiful areas we will have wonderful mountain views of Yaskawa Khag, Damodar Hill ( Danda) and Tilicho as well as very old and unbelievable cave. Our walking trail will be descending till Samar village than we will have to go above the village to the ridge of a brown dry mountain. our last walking route after ridge of the will going to be steeply downhill to the small river and after while we will reach to Syangboche. our team will stay one night there in the lodge.

Day 6: Trekking from Syanbiche to Ghami (3520 m/11,545 ft)- about 6 hours walking

Today we will walk up the hill after we have breakfast in the lodge till Yamada pass which is located at 3750 m from the sea level. each and every step towards our destination we will have buddies Mani wall, Chortens, traditional Tibetan village, old art, lovely field, small forest along the way that our team will be at Nyi pass which is 4110 m. the view from that pass will be just magnificent all around after spending small break there we will go downhill to Ghami it is a big village of the region in a low loop of the upper Mustang. Ghami village is the best area where you can see such a lively crops field around and the view of snow cap mountains and traditions of local people from the village. we will spend one night there.

Day 8: Ghami to Tsarang ( 3620 m/11873 ft)- 6 hours walking

When we weak up in the morning we will have the super view and at the same time, we take our food there in the lodge than we start to walk downhill through the small slippery path till the Ghami Khola bridge than we cross the bridge and walk ascending. the geographical features and scenario along the trekking route will be just awesome. the trail leads us to the pass after some time walk called Tsarang pass located at 3870 m than we will arrive at Tsarang village. we stay a night there in the tea house.

Day 9: Trek to Lo-Manthang(3730m/12234ft)- 4 hours walking

This day we will follow the trail towards the valley and need to cross a small river over the bridge before we pass Lo La at 3950 M it is quite high and we get to see a lovely village Lo-Manthan so we have to walk all downhill to get this village from the top. when we reach there we will get a lovely chance to see, Nilgiri Tilicho and Annapurna 1 as well as Damodar Kunda and Bhirkuti small peak. overnight stay at the lodge.

Day 10: Acclimatization at L0-Manthang

Lo-Manthang is a beautiful mountain village of upper mustang trekking area of Nepal. There are many buddies related things but Gompa (monastery) is the major attraction of this village for a day sight walking. there are mainly 3 Gompas called Jhampa, Thupchen, and Chhoeda, so you can have a look the monks chanting, rural life around their income, there all kind of activities you can see in this day. overnight again at same lodge.

Day 11: Trekking from Lo-Manthang to Drakmar(3800m/12490ft)- about 7 hours walk,

After we have breakfast in the lodge we change our direction to another trail from Lomanthang. we follow the trail along the Gyakar village which is a historical place too as they have Century Old Ghar Gompa and it has beautiful mantras painted stones. there is a traditional saying that Whoever wishes at the Gompa ( Monastery) will have their goal and wishes fulfilled. we going to spend some time at the Gompa than we trek to Drakmar village to spend the night.

Day 12: Trek to Ghiling (3806 m/12480 ft)- about 6 hours walking

We going to have early breakfast this day because we will have a strong wind if we are late to start our journey for the day so to avoid this problem we walk downhill most of the time passing some dry field and Himalaya views around before we arrive at our destination for this day. Ghiling is a small village but to see the great insane view in distance, it is a perfect place. once we reach the Ghiling village we can walk around to explore the traditional life and culture. we stay there in a tea house.

Day 13: Trekking to Chhuksang(3050m/10000ft)-6 hours walking

This day we going to follow the same way as before going up to Lo Manthang but the different perspective of views of Himalayas, and the colorful traditional village will be the most highlights of the day while we are walking to Chhuksang. overnight at Chhuksang.

Day 14: Trek to Jomsom (2710 m/8886 ft) -7 hours walking

Day 14th is the longest but the last walking days .we will pass similar scenario like other day most of the time this day too than after we will join the popular trekking trail Annapurna circuit trek rail at Kagbeni where we will take our lunch than 3 hours walk at the bank of Kaligandaki river till Jomsom. we going to spent a lovely night there and ready for the next early morning flight to Pokhara.

Day 15: Fly back to Pokhara- 25 minute

We will have an early flight to Pokhara from Jomsom about 25 minute through the mountains. after we enjoyed the 2 weeks holiday in the Himalaya we can have city shower and best mattress as well as verities of drinks and foods. over night at Pokhara.

Day 16: Drive from Pokhara to Kathmandu- 7 hours

We will take a tourist standard bus in the morning from Pokhara which takes 7 hours TO Kathmandu including two time stop. over night at Kathmandu.

Day 17: Final departure

It is our last day to be together because as you have your time and after this wonderful upper mustang trek we will provides you a comfortable car/jeep to go to airport before 3 hours of your schedule to fly.we gain and share many memories in this trip and hope to see you for next adventure in your future.

How much for upper mustang trek permit?

It cost 500 USD for a permit and you need to be at list 2 people to go to upper mustang because it is restricted area this is why the entrance fees are quite expensive. it is such a wonderful are to explore Tibetan art, culture and old Tibetan kingdom.

Where is the upper mustang?

It is in the Annapurna region to the north side of Jomsom Muktinath situated on the sandy old brown valley. you can go from Pokhara side or Lamjung Besisahar side. it takes about 12 days up to 15 days.

Is Upper Mustang is safe to travel?

Yes, it is safe restricted area trek and there are shortening rules that you should go there with a guide or porter it means when you have guided you will be even safer and secure where ever you travel around upper Mustang area.

Can I trek to Upper Mustang by myself?

It is a common question from many travelers about this trip but unfortunately, as we have rules we can’t trek alone there has to be at list 2 person in the group because it is a restricted area so to respect the nation and culture also you should go there in a group.
