Easy and Famous Trekking Route in Nepal

The Ghorepani Poon Hill trek, often referred to simply as Poon Hill trek, is among Nepal’s most popular and easy routes. Located in the Annapurna region, it offers breathtaking views without the risk of altitude sickness. While longer treks like the Annapurna Circuit and Annapurna Base Camp require over a week and greater physical fitness, Ghorepani Poon Hill can be completed in 3-9 days, making it accessible to all. Highlights include scenic vistas, authentic cultural experiences in villages like Ulleri and Ghandruk, and cozy accommodations in Ghorepani’s Tea Houses with stunning mountain panoramas.

The Magic of Poon Hill’s Sunrise

The highlight of our trek is seeing the sunrise at Poon Hill, which means we have to start early from Ghorepani. We pack water, cameras, snacks, and a bit of money. Normally, we leave Ghorepani around 5:15 am, but the exact time might vary depending on the season. It’s about an hour’s walk through the forest, but once we get to Poon Hill, the view of the snowy mountains all around is simply breathtaking.

As the sun rises over the Himalayas, Poon Hill becomes alive with colors. The mist clears, revealing the grand mountains. They turn pink, orange, and gold, making a beautiful picture. Watching this sunrise fills people with awe and joy. As the sun climbs higher, it warms everything, making it even more beautiful. Poon Hill’s sunrise is a magical experience that stays with you.

Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek Difficulty:

Ghorepani Poon Hill trek isn’t too tough compared to other treks in the Annapurna region. It’s great for first-time trekkers, students, older folks, and even kids. This trek is safe, simple, and won’t break the bank in Nepal.

The first three hours from Nayapul to Thikhedunga is an easy walk on a wide road. Then, it gets a bit steeper as you trek six hours from Thikhedunga to Ghorepani through the forest. After that, there’s a stone-made steep trail for about an hour from Ghorepani to Poon Hill, where you catch the sunrise. Once you’ve soaked in the view, you’ll head back to Ghorepani and trek another hour to Thapla Danada. From there, it’s a steep descent to Banthati, followed by an easy trail for about 35 to 40 minutes to Tadapani. The last leg of the journey, a three-hour trek from Tadapani to Ghandruk village, is an easy descent. After that, you’ll drive to Pokhara.

Overall, the toughest part of this trek is the second day from Thikhedunga to Ghorepani. Otherwise, it’s a relatively easy trekking route in Nepal.

Patricia Hailing

Greetings, this is Patricia hailing from England. Recently, I undertook the Ghorepani Poon Hill and Ghandruk trek in Nepal, spanning seven delightful days, commencing from Kathmandu. The experience was truly enchanting. During my pre-trip preparations, I discovered a local trekking agency in Kathmandu through Google. Impressed by their stellar reviews, I reached out to Mr. Santosh Gauli, the manager, via email. His prompt response and array of pricing options led us to choose Safe Holiday Adventure Team for our trek.

The entire journey was impeccably organized by the team, boasting over 15 years of expertise. The weather, especially at Ghorepani Poon Hill, was awe-inspiring. We were privileged to witness a panoramic view of more than 12 mountains, including the majestic Dhaulagiri, standing tall at 8,167 meters. The sunrise spectacle from Poon Hill left us speechless.

Our guide, Rupesh, though unassuming, displayed remarkable intelligence. He looked after our well-being throughout the trek, ensuring comfortable tea house accommodations and ample food at every stop. I extend my heartfelt gratitude to Safe Holiday and Santosh for their exceptional management. Wishing you a prosperous future. We look forward to staying in touch and considering a return in 2026 for the Everest Base Camp trek. If anyone we know plans a trip to Nepal, we will undoubtedly recommend your services. Thank you, Namaste!
