Gokyo Renjola Pass Trek Overview:

Experience an amazing trek in the Himalayas with the 12-day Gokyo Renjola Pass Trek. This tough journey leads you through stunning scenery, including snowy mountains, icy Glaciers, and picturesque villages.

The journey starts in the charming village of Lukla(2,860 M), where you’ll acclimatize to the altitude before setting off on the trail. As you make your way through the Khumbu Region, you’ll pass through lush Forests, cross fast-flowing Dudh Koshi Rivers, and navigate steep inclines.

One of the highlights of the trek is the ascent of Gokyo Ri(5,380 M), a peak that offers panoramic views of the surrounding mountains, including the mighty Mt. Everest(8,848 M). This is a challenging climb, but the effort is more than worth it for the incredible views from the summit.

Safety is of the utmost importance on this trek, and you’ll need to be aware of the potential risks of altitude sickness (AMS). Our experienced Everest Specialist Guides will be on hand to ensure that you are properly acclimatized.

As you reach the Renjola Pass(5,360m), you’ll be met with the unique thrill of crossing an Everest high-altitude pass, surrounded by towering peaks and Glaciers. The descent from the pass takes you through traditional Sherpa villages such as Lugden Thame and Thamo, where you’ll have the opportunity to immerse yourself in the local culture and learn about the way of life in this remote region. Additionally, during the Everest Gokyo and Renjo La Pass trek, after crossing Renjo La, you’ll enter the historic and legendary village of Thame. Here, you’ll find the homes of many Everest summiteers, along with an ancient Tibetan Buddhist monastery located at the back of the village. From Thame, you’ll also enjoy close-up views of towering mountains and the river below, making it one of the highlights of the Gokyo and Renjo La Pass trek. After exploring Thame, you will descend to Namche Bazaar via Thamo.

The adventurous hike from Gokyo involves a few days of moderate ascents and descents. From Gokyo, you will eventually reach Namche Bazaar, a hub offering access to several alternative trekking routes in the Everest region, such as the Everest Base Camp trek, Island Peak, the Everest Three Passes trek( Everest High Passes Trek), the Two Passes Everest trek (including the Cho La Pass), and the Lobuche Peak adventure trip. The Renjo La Pass trek is considered slightly easier than the other two passes (Kongma La and Cho La), but in terms of scenic views, it remains one of the best and most memorable short treks in the Everest region. Once trekkers reach Namche, they’ll feel like they’ve returned to civilization with better food and accommodations. The next day, you’ll descend to Lukla via Monjo, Benkar, Toktok, and Phakding, marking the end of your Renjo La Pass trek.

The Gokyo Renjola Pass Trek is an unforgettable experience that will test your physical and mental limits. It’s a challenging journey, but the rewards are countless, from the stunning views to the sense of accomplishment upon reaching the summit. Join us on this once-in-a-lifetime adventure and discover the beauty of the Himalayas for yourself.

Weather, Food & Accommodation:

The Gokyo Renjola Pass Trek is in the Himalayas, where the weather can change a lot. During the best trekking seasons (spring and autumn), the weather is usually mild, but it can change quickly, and it gets cold at higher elevations. You need to bring warm clothes, a waterproof jacket, and good hiking boots.

Food during the trek includes local and continental dishes, with many choices for vegetarians and special diets. You can try traditional Sherpa food like dal bhat and momos, as well as Western-style food.

Accommodation will be in local teahouses or lodges. The facilities are simple but comfortable, with shared bathrooms and heating from wood-burning stoves. It’s a great way to experience local culture and meet other trekkers.

Required Permits, Guide, & Porter for Gokyo Renjola Pass Trekking

The Gokyo Renjola Pass Trek requires several permits to enter the protected regions of the Khumbu region. Additionally, the Sagarmatha National Park permit is required to enter the park, which can also be obtained in Kathmandu or at the park entrance in Monjo.

Having a Guide and Porter is not mandatory but highly recommended for the Gokyo Renjola Pass Trek, as they can provide valuable assistance with navigation, language barriers, and carrying equipment. A guide will have a deep knowledge of the local culture and environment and be able to provide information about the history and geology of the region. A porter can carry your heavy backpack, allowing you to enjoy the trek more comfortably.

It’s important to make sure that your guide and porter are licensed and insured, and that they are provided with appropriate equipment and fair wages. This will ensure that they can safely and comfortably assist you during the trek.

Gokyo Renjola Pass Trekking difficulty & who can join it:

The Gokyo Renjola Pass Trek is considered to be a challenging trek due to its high altitude, steep inclines, and rocky terrain. The trek requires a good level of physical fitness and the ability to hike for several hours a day. It’s also important to be prepared for the potential risks of altitude sickness (AMS).

That being said, with proper preparation, training, and a positive attitude, the Gokyo Renjola Pass Trek can be completed by most people who are in good physical shape. It’s suitable for both experienced trekkers and beginners who are looking for a challenging adventure.
