6-Day Annapurna Circuit Short Trek – Route Overview Overview

The 6-Day Annapurna Circuit Short Trek is a perfect choice for travelers who want to experience the beauty of the Himalayas in a short time without missing the main highlights. This journey begins from Kathmandu, where you leave behind the busy city life and head towards the mountains. The first part of the trip is a long but scenic drive. You travel along rivers, green hills, and local villages until you reach Besishahar, and from there continue deeper into the mountain region to arrive at Chame. Chame is a peaceful village surrounded by pine forests and snowy peaks, and it is the starting point of your trek.

As the trek begins, you slowly walk into the heart of the Annapurna region. The trail leads you through forests, suspension bridges, and riverside paths. You reach Pisang, where the scenery starts to open up, and the mountain views become wider and more dramatic. The traditional houses, prayer flags, and local lifestyle give you a true feeling of mountain culture. From here, the journey continues towards Manang, one of the most important stops on the trek. The landscape changes as you gain altitude; the green forests slowly disappear and are replaced by dry, open terrain. Manang is not just a rest point, but also a place to explore monasteries, meet locals, and enjoy stunning Himalayan views.

Moving higher, the trail takes you to Yak Kharka, a remote grazing area where you may see yaks and wide open landscapes. The air becomes thinner, making the walk more challenging and slower. You continue onward to Thorong Phedi, the final stop before the highest point of the trek. This is where you prepare mentally and physically for the biggest day.

The most challenging and rewarding moment comes when you cross Thorong La Pass, standing at 5,416 meters. This is one of the highest trekking passes in the world. The climb is tough and cold, but reaching the top gives a strong sense of achievement. The panoramic mountain views are truly unforgettable. After crossing the pass, you descend towards Muktinath Temple, a sacred pilgrimage site for both Hindus and Buddhists. The place offers a peaceful and spiritual experience, adding deeper meaning to your journey.

After completing the main trek, instead of directly driving to Pokhara, you have an excellent option to extend your adventure. From Muktinath, you can travel down to Tatopani, a place famous for its natural hot springs. This is the perfect spot to relax your body after several days of trekking.

From Tatopani, you can add 2 extra days and extend your journey to Poon Hill, one of the best sunrise viewpoints in Nepal. The trail passes through beautiful Villages, Rhododendron forests, and Traditional culture. Early in the morning, a hike to Poon Hill rewards you with a spectacular sunrise over the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges. It is an easy but highly rewarding extension that adds more value to your trek.

After enjoying Poon Hill, you descend and take a jeep drive back to Pokhara, where you can relax by the lake, mountains, and peaceful environment.

This trek, with the optional Poon Hill extension, becomes a complete Himalayan experience. In a short time, you explore high mountain passes, cultural villages, spiritual sites, and natural beauty. It is flexible, time-saving, and full of adventure, making it one of the best short treks in Nepal.

My Best hiking Experience in Nepal

I recently had the pleasure of embarking on an incredible trek with Safe Holiday Adventure Pvt. Ltd., and I can’t praise them enough for their exceptional service. From the moment we landed in Kathmandu, the team was there to take care of every detail. Our guide, Dukpa, and porter, Hariu from Lukla, were outstanding. They guided us seamlessly from Kathmandu all the way to the Thorong La Pass and back to Kathmandu, ensuring our journey was as smooth and enjoyable as possible.

The weather was perfect throughout our trek, which only added to the experience. We were provided with private rooms and fresh food, and we never felt any pressure to walk beyond our comfort level. The small group size made the trek even more enjoyable, allowing for personalized attention and a more intimate experience.

A special thank you to Mr. Gauli for his excellent management and the helpfulness of our guide and porter. This was undoubtedly one of the best treks we’ve ever had, and we are already thinking about returning in a few years for the Everest Base Camp trek. Thank you, Safe Holiday Adventure Team, for making this journey unforgettable. Best of luck with your business!

Trekking Duration and Daily Progress

Over six days, trekkers complete the core section of the Annapurna Circuit. The hike includes five days of walking and one day of driving. Each trekking day lasts around 5 to 7 hours, depending on your pace and the weather. Despite the short schedule, it includes all the key highlights and landscapes of the region.

How High You Will Go – Altitude Facts

One of the major features of this trek is the high-altitude terrain. The trail climbs steadily from Chame to the top of Thorong La Pass, which is 5,416 meters (17,769 feet) above sea level. While the views are amazing, this high elevation can be challenging. It’s important to acclimate well, stay hydrated, and avoid rushing.

Where You Will Sleep – Accommodation on the Trek

During the trek, you’ll sleep in teahouses—simple mountain lodges run by local families. They offer basic facilities like a bed, a blanket, and a shared toilet. Most teahouses have a cozy dining hall with a fire in the evening. Hot food and warm drinks are available, but it’s best to bring a sleeping bag, especially for cold nights.

Physical Fitness and Preparation

Although this is a shorter trek, it still demands good physical condition. The route includes long climbs, rocky trails, and high passes. Trekkers should be comfortable walking for several hours a day. Some basic training or hiking experience helps, but even beginners can complete it with the right mindset and a slow, steady pace.

Permits You’ll Need for the Trek

For the 6-Day Annapurna Circuit Short Trek, only one permit is required: the Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP). This official document allows you to enter the protected Annapurna region and helps support environmental conservation, local communities, and trail maintenance.

At Safe Holiday Adventure Pvt. Ltd., we make the permit process completely hassle-free. Once you book your trek with us, our team will handle all the paperwork and secure the ACAP permit on your behalf—no stress, no delays.

We ensure you’re fully prepared and compliant with the latest trekking regulations, so you can focus on enjoying the breathtaking landscapes and mountain culture. Our experienced staff will also remind you to keep your permit handy, as you’ll need to show it at several checkpoints along the trail.

Trek with confidence, knowing that everything is taken care of professionally and efficiently—that’s the Safe Holiday Adventure promise.

When Is the Best Time to Go?

The ideal seasons for this trek are spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November). These months offer clear skiesstable weather, and excellent mountain views. Winter is also possible, but snow at Thorong La can make the crossing risky. During monsoon (June to August), the trails can be slippery with limited visibility.

Why Hire a Guide or Porter?

While it’s possible to trek without a guide, having one makes the journey safer and more enjoyable. A local guide shares cultural insights, helps you communicate, and assists if you feel unwell. Porters can carry your heavy bag, letting you walk freely and enjoy the views. Many trekkers find the company of guides and porters adds warmth and local connection to their trek.

The highest point reached on this trek is usually Thorong La Pass, standing at approximately 5,416 meters (17,769 feet) above sea level.

While it’s not mandatory, hiring a guide is recommended for safety, navigation, and cultural insights. Guides also assist in case of emergencies and enhance the overall trekking experience.

Accommodation mainly consists of teahouses or basic lodges along the route. Rooms are usually simple with twin beds and shared bathroom facilities. It’s advisable to bring a sleeping bag for added comfort and warmth.

The best times for the trek are during the spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) seasons when the weather is generally clear, and the views are stunning. However, it’s essential to check weather conditions and trail accessibility before planning the trek.

The trek requires a moderate level of fitness, with several hours of walking each day, including steep ascents and descents. Prior trekking experience is beneficial but not mandatory. Proper acclimatization and hydration are crucial for a safe and enjoyable trek.

Essential items include trekking boots, warm clothing layers, a waterproof jacket, a sleeping bag, sunscreen, sunglasses, a hat, trekking poles, a first aid kit, and a refillable water bottle. It’s essential to pack light but adequately for the trek.

Altitude sickness is a potential risk due to the high elevations reached during the trek. Trekkers should be aware of the symptoms and ascend gradually to allow for proper acclimatization. It’s also advisable to carry medications for common ailments and consult with a healthcare professional before the trek.
