10-Day Everest Base Camp Trek for Nepali Citizens – Introduction Overview
The Everest Base Camp Trek for Nepali Citizens is a once-in-a-lifetime Himalayan adventure designed especially for Nepali travelers who want to experience the world’s most famous trekking destination at an affordable cost. This carefully planned Everest Base Camp Trek for Nepali Citizens combines breathtaking mountain views, Sherpa culture, comfortable teahouse Accommodation, and a well-paced itinerary. Whether you are an experienced hiker or planning your first high-altitude journey, this trek offers an unforgettable opportunity to stand at the foot of Mount Everest (8,848.86m).
Your journey begins in Kathmandu, where our team will assist you before you head to the Domestic Airport by taxi, a 25-minute drive. From there, you will enjoy a spectacular 30-minute mountain flight to Lukla, the gateway to the Everest region. During the busy trekking months of October, November, March, and April, flights are usually operated from Ramechhap (Manthali Airport) because of heavy air traffic in Kathmandu. After landing in Lukla, your trek starts with a gentle walk through beautiful villages, pine forests, and the scenic Dudh Koshi River Valley before reaching the peaceful village of Phakding.
Leaving Phakding, the trail follows the crystal-clear Dudh Koshi River, crossing several iconic suspension bridges decorated with colorful prayer flags. You will pass traditional Sherpa villages, charming tea houses, and lush forests before entering the protected Sagarmatha National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. A steady uphill climb eventually brings you to the vibrant town of Namche Bazaar, the commercial and cultural heart of the Khumbu region. This bustling mountain town offers stunning Himalayan scenery, local bakeries, trekking shops, and warm Sherpa hospitality.
To ensure a safe and enjoyable trek, an important acclimatization day is spent in Namche Bazaar. Rather than staying inactive, you will hike to the famous Everest View Hotel, one of the highest luxury hotels in the world. From this incredible viewpoint, you can admire panoramic views of Mount Everest, Ama Dablam, Lhotse, Nuptse, and many other snow-covered peaks. You may also visit the local Sherpa Museum and nearby villages before returning to Namche for a relaxing overnight stay.
The trail then continues through beautiful rhododendron forests, crossing mountain ridges with spectacular Himalayan scenery before arriving at the peaceful village of Tengboche. This village is famous for the magnificent Tengboche Monastery, the largest and most important Buddhist monastery in the Everest region. Surrounded by towering peaks, it offers visitors a chance to experience Buddhist culture, observe monks during daily prayers, and enjoy some of the finest mountain views on the entire trek.
After leaving Tengboche, the landscape gradually changes as you enter the higher alpine region. Passing through the traditional village of Pangboche, crossing glacial streams, and walking beneath towering cliffs, the trail leads to Dingboche. This beautiful Himalayan village is surrounded by spectacular views of Ama Dablam, Island Peak, Lhotse, and countless snow-covered mountains. The peaceful atmosphere and breathtaking scenery make Dingboche one of the most memorable stops along the journey.
From Dingboche, the adventure becomes even more dramatic as the trail follows wide glacial valleys toward Lobuche. Along the way, you visit the historic Thukla Pass Memorial, where stone monuments honor climbers and trekkers who lost their lives while exploring the Himalayas. Surrounded by rugged landscapes, towering peaks, and ancient glaciers, this section of the trek offers a powerful reminder of the beauty and challenges of high-altitude mountaineering.
One of the most exciting moments of the Everest Base Camp Trek for Nepali Citizens begins as you leave Lobuche for Gorak Shep, the final settlement before Everest Base Camp. After a short rest, you continue across rocky glacial terrain to reach the legendary Everest Base Camp (5,364m). Standing at the base of the world’s highest mountain is an emotional achievement for every trekker. During the climbing season, colorful expedition tents create an unforgettable atmosphere before you return to Gorak Shep for the night.
Before sunrise, you begin the rewarding climb to Kala Patthar (5,545m), widely regarded as the best viewpoint in the Everest region. As the first rays of sunlight illuminate the Himalayan giants, you will witness breathtaking views of Mount Everest, Pumori, Nuptse, Lhotse, and the massive Khumbu Glacier. After capturing unforgettable photographs, you descend to Gorak Shep and continue down to the peaceful village of Pheriche, where the lower elevation provides a comfortable overnight stay.
The return journey follows scenic trails through Pangboche, Tengboche, and lush forests before reaching Namche Bazaar once again. Descending allows you to appreciate the magnificent landscapes from a different perspective while enjoying the warm hospitality of the Sherpa people. The following day, you complete your final trek back to Lukla, celebrating an incredible achievement before flying back to Kathmandu with unforgettable memories of Nepal’s most iconic trekking adventure.
Our Everest Base Camp Trek for Nepali Citizens is specially designed for local trekkers seeking a safe, well-organized, and memorable Himalayan experience. With experienced local guides, comfortable tea houses, carefully planned acclimatization, and breathtaking scenery at every step, this package offers exceptional value for Nepali travelers. If reaching Everest Base Camp, witnessing the sunrise from Kala Patthar, and experiencing the unique culture of the Khumbu region have always been your dreams, this trek is the perfect adventure to make them a reality.
Best Time for Nepali Citizens to Trek Everest Base Camp – When to Go and Why
If you’re a Nepali citizen dreaming of reaching Everest Base Camp, choosing the right season is very important for safety, comfort, and the best mountain views. Luckily, Nepal offers two ideal trekking seasons: spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November).
Spring Season (March to May)
Spring is one of the best times to trek to EBC. The weather is generally clear and warm, making it easier to hike during the day. You’ll enjoy colorful rhododendron forests, stable skies, and excellent views of Everest, Lhotse, and Ama Dablam. It’s also the climbing season, so you may see mountaineers preparing for Everest expeditions at Base Camp.
Autumn Season (September to November)
Autumn is the most popular season for trekking to Everest Base Camp. After the monsoon rains, the air becomes fresh and clean, offering clear visibility, stunning views, and less chance of rain or snow. The weather is dry and stable, and trails are in the best condition. It’s perfect for local trekkers who want a safe and rewarding adventure.
When to Avoid
Try to avoid the monsoon season (June to August) due to slippery trails, landslides, and poor visibility. Mid-winter (late December to early February) can also be very cold, with snow and icy trails, making the trek much more difficult unless you are highly experienced.
Why It Matters for Nepali Trekkers
As a Nepali traveler, planning your trek during the right time helps you enjoy the best scenery, comfortable weather, and safer trail conditions. You’ll also meet other local and international trekkers, making the journey more enjoyable and social.

An Unforgettable Everest Base Camp Trek Experience
I recently completed the Everest Base Camp trek with Safe Holiday Adventure Pvt. Ltd., and I can confidently say it was one of the best travel experiences of my life. From the moment I landed in Kathmandu until the final farewell in Lukla, everything was perfectly organized and professionally managed.
A huge part of the success of this trek goes to my amazing guide, Prem, and our strong and kind porter, Aakash. Prem was more than just a guide—he was a walking encyclopedia of the Khumbu region. His knowledge about the mountains, local culture, and daily trekking routes was incredible. He was always attentive to our needs, checking our oxygen levels, ensuring we ate well, stayed hydrated, and adjusted the pace as needed to make sure we stayed healthy and enjoyed the journey.
Aakash, our porter, was equally impressive. Always smiling and ready to help, he carried our bags through the challenging terrain with such ease and grace. His support made our trek so much more comfortable and enjoyable.
The team at Safe Holiday Adventure Pvt. Ltd., especially Mr. Santosh, was extremely responsive during the planning phase. They provided clear and honest information, helped us prepare with a proper packing list, and were always quick to answer any questions.
The entire 12-day trek—from Lukla to Everest Base Camp and back—was a dream come true. The breathtaking views of Everest, Ama Dablam, Lhotse, and the surrounding peaks, along with the warm hospitality of the teahouses, made it a lifetime memory. Our itinerary was well-paced, allowing enough time for acclimatization, and we felt safe and cared for throughout the adventure.
I highly recommend Safe Holiday Adventure Pvt. Ltd. to anyone planning a trek in Nepal. Their local experience, dedicated staff, and genuine hospitality set them apart from other agencies. Thank you, Prem, Aakash, and the whole team, for making my Everest Base Camp trek unforgettable. I’ll be back for another adventure!

No Special Trekking Permit Required for Nepalis
Unlike foreigners, Nepali citizens do not need TIMS cards or special permits. However, Sagarmatha National Park entry (NPR 100) and local Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality fee (NPR 100) may still apply in some areas, and it’s best to carry your citizenship card or voter ID for verification.
Trek Preparation & Fitness
Although you are trekking in your own country, the trail is challenging, especially above 3,500m. You must be physically fit. Start basic walking/jogging practice 2–3 weeks in advance. Be ready for 5–8 hours of trekking per day, including steep ascents and descents.
Altitude Sickness Awareness
Even for Nepali trekkers, altitude sickness is common. Namche Bazaar (3,440m) and Gorakshep (5,164m) are high-altitude zones. Drink plenty of water, avoid alcohol, walk slowly, and take rest days. Consider carrying Diamox tablets as a precaution.
Right Clothing and Gear
Weather in the Everest region is cold and unpredictable. Bring warm layers, a windproof jacket, gloves, hat, and good trekking shoes. A small backpack, water bottle, headlamp, and sunglasses are also important. Though you’re Nepali, be well-equipped.
Accommodation & Food
Most tea houses provide simple shared rooms with basic beds and blankets. Food is mostly dal bhat, noodles, potatoes, or Tibetan bread. Prices are lower for Nepali tourists compared to foreigners, but carry some cash (NPR) for the trek.
Network and Charging
Mobile networks (NTC/Ncell) work in some areas like Namche and Tengboche, but higher up they are weak or unavailable. Electricity is limited, and charging devices may cost extra. Bring a power bank.
Emergency Contact and Insurance
While insurance is optional for Nepali trekkers, it’s good to inform family or friends before you go. In case of emergency, helicopter rescue is possible, but costly if not insured. Stay safe and go with a guide if unsure.
Trek Budget
The average cost for Nepali trekkers is around NPR 90,000 to NPR 100,000 for a 10-day package. This includes flights, guide, porter, food, permits, and basic lodging. Prices may vary depending on the season and group size.
