A guide also shares local culture, history, flora, and fauna insights and provides navigation and first aid support when needed.
Hiring a porter is also beneficial as it allows you to trek light and comfortably while supporting the local economy.
Overall, using a guide and porter is the best choice for a safe, informative, and enjoyable trekking experience.

Detailed ItineraryItinerary
Pokhara – Ulleri – Ghorepani
Your 3-day Poon Hill adventure begins in Pokhara with a scenic drive toward Ulleri, passing through the beautiful countryside and mountain villages of the Annapurna region. From Ulleri, we begin walking through lush rhododendron and oak forests, gradually gaining altitude as the trail leads toward Banthanti and Nangethanti. The walk is steady rather than technical, although there are several stone steps and uphill sections.
By afternoon, we reach Ghorepani (2,860 m), one of the most famous villages on the Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek. Once settled into the teahouse, you can relax with a hot drink and enjoy the mountain atmosphere. On clear evenings, the surrounding peaks can already give you a preview of the spectacular sunrise waiting for you the following morning. Overnight in Ghorepani.
Accommodation : Tea house / Lodge Meals : Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Ghorepani – Poon Hill Sunrise – Tadapani
We will have an early start today because Poon Hill sunrise is best experienced before the viewpoint becomes busy. Depending on the season and the sunrise schedule, your guide will usually wake you around 4:00–4:30 AM. After a warm drink, we leave Ghorepani with headlamps and follow the uphill stone trail toward Poon Hill. The climb is short but can feel demanding in the cold early-morning air, so we take it at an easy pace.
Our timing is planned around the season. Sunrise is generally earlier in spring and autumn and later during winter, so your guide will advise the exact departure time the evening before. March and April are particularly attractive for the walk because the rhododendrons are often flowering, while October and November are popular for generally clear mountain views. Weather in the mountains can change quickly, however, so the sunrise and visibility can never be guaranteed.
Once we reach Poon Hill at 3,210 m, there is time to find a good viewpoint, take photographs and enjoy the changing colors across the Himalayan skyline. After returning to Ghorepani, we have breakfast and continue toward Tadapani, walking through forested sections, small settlements and occasional open viewpoints. By the time we arrive at Tadapani, the day’s walking is complete, and you can relax at the teahouse and enjoy the mountain surroundings.
Accommodation : Tea House Meals : Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Tadapani – Ghandruk – Pokhara
After breakfast, we set off from Tadapani and gradually descend toward Ghandruk. The morning walk is peaceful, with the trail passing beneath tall forest trees and opening occasionally onto mountain views. As we lose altitude, the landscape begins to feel warmer and more settled, and the final section of the trail brings us into the traditional hillside community of Ghandruk.
We will have some time in Ghandruk (1,940 m) before leaving the trekking trail. This is a good place to slow down, walk around the village lanes, see the traditional stone houses and enjoy one last look toward the Annapurna range. If you wish, you can also visit the local cultural museum or simply have lunch with a view.
From Ghandruk, we continue by road back to Pokhara. The drive takes several hours depending on road conditions, with changing views of the hills and countryside along the way. We expect to reach Pokhara in the afternoon, bringing our 3-day Poon Hill Trek to a comfortable end.
