The 3-day Mardi Himal Trek is an enchanting journey through the breathtaking landscapes of the Annapurna region. It offers a perfect blend of cultural immersion and up-close mountain views. Starting from Pokhara, we begin the trek with an hour’s drive to Kande, where our adventure unfolds.

From Kande, the trail winds through typical Nepali houses, verdant farmlands, and tropical forests. Soon, it leads us steeply up to the captivating Australian Camp. This spot boasts one of the finest views of the Annapurna Mountain range. It provides an ideal opportunity to immerse ourselves in the stunning scenery. After spending time at Australian Camp, we continue along descending trails for about 20 minutes. We traverse a small forest to reach the beautiful Gurung village of Pothana in the Lower Loop of the Annapurna region. Here, we can marvel at both the local culture and scenery.

Trekking from Pothana to Forest Camp

The journey progresses with an upward climb through dense Rhododendron forests to reach Pitam Deurali (2,100m). This tranquil location lies about 50 minutes from Pothana. As we move forward, the path continues through the forested trail. After about three hours, we arrive at Forest Camp, where only one tea shop is available. It’s advisable to carry some dry food and chocolates for sustenance.

At Forest Camp, we are rewarded with captivating views of Fishtail, Annapurna South, and Hiuchuli. It makes a perfect spot for a lunch break. Afterward, we make our way to Rest Camp, which is just a 30-minute walk away. We spent our first night on the Mardi Himal Trek here.

Journey to High Camp

The following day, the trail takes us on a gradual ascent through the forest. Occasionally, it reveals mountain views and rolling green hills in the south direction. After an hour’s hike, we arrive at Low Camp, which features several tea houses for exploration. From there, a steep one-hour and 20-minute climb through the forest takes us to Badal Danda. This magical settlement serves as both a lunch spot and a suitable overnight stay option.

As the journey progresses, we follow the ridge of the mountains. This grants us stunning vistas of Annapurna Base Camp (Annapurna Sanctuary) to the left and Fishtail and Pokhara Valley to the right. After a pleasant walk of about one and a half to two hours, we reach High Camp (3,550m). It is the last tea house stop on the magical Mardi Himal Trek. Here, we spend two nights.

Mardi Himal Viewpoint Experience

The highlight of the trek awaits us the next morning as we ascend to the Mardi Himal viewpoint (4,200m). This stunning location offers incredible close-up views of the Annapurna and Fishtail mountains, creating unforgettable memories. Remember to bring water, snacks, a camera, and a flashlight for the journey. After relishing the views, we return to High Camp for breakfast. Then, we begin the steep descent to Siding Village.

The trek concludes at Sidding Village, where private transport in the form of a jeep awaits us back to Pokhara. The journey from High Camp to Pokhara takes approximately six to seven hours.
