Introductions:

The Mardi Himal trek is a beautifully made high alpine meadow and a short popular trek in the Annapurna region of Nepal. It is mostly combined with very dense forest and the white snow Cap Mountains.

Mardi Himal trek is being quite popular for the last few years otherwise it was just a campsite trekking without tea houses along the route, however, now it is one of the closest short trekking routes from Pokhara takes 4 to 5 days to go and back.

Furthermore, Mardi Himal is a relatively very less crowded trekking route that goes through mostly the dense forest and few local villages. If you are short on time you can make it within 4 days too because there are some alternative routes to go back to Pokhara. Once you reach the last settlements at high camp the view is just there almost you can touch them and spectacular valleys and rolling green hills.

Mardi Himal trek weather and Temperature

Trekking and tour are the most common dreams of every people around the world. The Mardi Himal trek is a short and less touristy trekking route where you can have so many memories about nature and Incomparable wilderness.  Mardi Himal trek is the nearest and easiest short trek from Pokhara takes 3 up to 6 days.

In this trek, you will spent a wonderful time and covers few beautiful villages.

Relatively it is not that high altitude area trek begins from low alleviation at 1,500 meters and reaches up to 3,580 m- high camp & 4,250 m View Point. The Minimum temperature during the Mardi Himal trek will be about -2 degrees centigrade, similarly, the highest temperature will be about 15 Degree centigrade respectively.  Each season in a year, the temperature will be different. So, For short information about the temperature here is the list to know better:

Mardi Himal trek during the winter season (Dec – Feb) & Temperature

Winter is the coldest trekking season in Nepal including the Mardi Himal trekking route. The temperature drops down very quickly goes till -3 at night and during the day will be about 10 degrees centigrade.

The Winter season means from December to February. In these months, there are mostly snows along the route that makes your trip even more memorable and beautiful but for sure relatively will be quite cold.  If you are trekking on your own without crowded then the Mardi Himal trek will be the best because it is short, also easy route, safe, and the tea house are easily available along the route all year.

Mardi Himal trek during the spring season (March-May) & Temperature

Mardi Himal trek during the Spring season is probably the best months because the trekking routes are almost covered by rhododendron forest and fir and during the spring the flowers bloom everywhere and also the weather gets clear every day. The temperature will be mild that the coldest temperature at Night will be 5 -7 degrees centigrade similarly during the day the temperature will be very good about 17 to 20-degree centigrade.

If you want to skip the crowd and want your peaceful time during your trek in the Mardi Himal area then you are highly recommended to visit during the spring season in Nepal.

Mardi Himal trek during summer season (June –Aug) & Temperature

Summer season trek to Mardi Himal is not the best month but still, if you are short on time and don’t know what to do for few days in Pokhara or Kathmandu then the Mardi Himal trek will be the best. Of course, during the summer there is almost every day raining get slippery trails but in the morning the view of the massif Himalayas will be clear and looks more greenery scene.

Mardi Himal trek temperature during summer is probably the hottest time. In this season the highest temperature will be about 25 Degree centigrade which is in the daytime and the temperature at night will be about 12 degrees.  If you are there to enjoy the clear view of beautiful mountains and valleys then you are recommended to wake up early morning because every day in the early morning the weather gets very clear and after 12 noon there will be clouds already.

Note: If you are trekking during the monsoon time in Mardi Himal doesn’t forget to have Pancho/raincoat and an experienced Trekking Guide for your safety.

Mardi Himal trek during the autumn season (Sep–Nov) & Temperature

The best trekking season in Nepal is the Autumn season because every day you will have very clear weather, the temperature is mild, there is no risk of landslides, very little chance to have rain, the scenery will be very green in the valley and below the mountain range thus, if you are planning your holiday to Nepal during the Autumn then no doubt you will collect so many memories from the Mountain.

The Temperature during the day, while you are walking, will be very warm about 20 degrees, which means if you just wear a t-shirt while you are walking that will be more than enough and the next during the night the temperature will be about 10-degree centigrade.

However, in average the highest temperature during the Mardi Himal trek will be about 20-degree centigrade and the lowest temperature will be -2 respectively. The next, trekking and touring activities in Nepal during the autumn season is the best time from every perspective and no doubt you will collect so many memories from the countryside area of Nepal.

Mardi Himal trek detailed Itinerary from Pokhara

Day 01: Drive from Pokhara Hotel to Kande and trek to Deurali/ Pothana

We take a private Car/Jeep from Pokhara to Kande in the morning. It is about an hour’s drive to reach Kande then we begin our trek.

Your real walk for today begins from Kande after an hour’s drive. From Kande, we follow the small natural walking route through some local houses and forest steeply on stone-made steeps till the top of Australian camp then shorts easy hike to Pothana. We stop here for lunch then the trek continues to Deurali following the popular trekking route through the forest of fir, rhododendron, and oaks.

After reaching Deurali top we take our room and enjoy your time.

Overnight destination: Deurali- 2125 meter

Walking distance: 3 to 4 hours

Meals in the package: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 02: Trek to the Low Camp

Deurali is already located on the high mountain hill, from where you can enjoy the great view of Mt. Dhaulagiri, Annapurna, and beautiful Mt. Fishtail while you are taking your breakfast then we continue the trek through the peaceful forest till Forest camp. There is no well-made tea house before reaching forest camp but you can stop at the basic hut where they sell tea and soups.

Today we trek through the forest that means there is no sunshine but the environment is truly tranquil. 

After 3 hours walking from Deurali, you already reach Forest camp where you can have good lunch at the lodge then follow the trail again towards low camp via rest camp. Today mostly we are walking on a gradual uphill.

Overnight destination: Low camp- 3,150 meter

Walking distance: 5 hours

Day 03: Trek Low camp to the High Camp                                                           

Today is the most exciting day because we are straight heading to the high camp and crossing the tree line area after Badal Danda. Badal Danda is situated on the Ridge of Massif Mountain and the view of Mt. Fishtail and Annapurna Mountain are just indescribable, you can stop here for tea then walk continues to High camp.

Once you reach the top of High camp you can see just a stunning mountain range and you are above the clouds. The high camp of Mardi Himal is not a big area but it is no doubt the best spot t spent the night. There are about 10 small lodges where they serve you a hot shower, food, Wi-Fi, and private accommodation.  

Overnight destination: High camp- 3,550 meter

Walking distance: 4-5 hours

Day 04: Hike to the Mardi viewpoint and trek to the Sidding village

Today is the earliest morning we start our hike up to Viewpoint to enjoy the mesmerizing sunrise view over Annapurna south, Hiuchuli, Mardi Himal, and Fishtail.

Mardi Himal viewpoint is the main destination of this trek, where there is a heavenly made valley view, sky touching mountains, rolling hills to the south, and a very deep gorge towards Annapurna base camp.

After spending a wonderful time on the top viewpoint, we go back to the same hotel for breakfast, then head down to Sidding village; it is about 3 to 4 hours steep downhill through the forest. We will be staying in the lodge at Sidding village but if you are more curious about local life and their culture, you can also stay with locals at Homestay, where they will serve local food and local drink.

Overnight destination: Sidding village: 1,750 meter

Walking distance: 7-8 hours

Day 05: Drive back to Pokhara

Today is your last day on this trek. We will have a beautiful valley view in the morning from Sidding village and a warm organic breakfast then we take a jeep to Pokhara. It is about a 2.30-hour drive to Pokhara. After reaching Pokhara we check in to the hotel and go for lunch then we explore the city together.

Overnight destination: Pokhara- 950 meter

What to take for the Mardi Himal trek:

Mardi Himal trek is a moderate trekking route in the Annapurna region and also it is a tea house bases trekking route, which means there is no point to bring so many things. it is 4 days trek and you going to stay in the lodges where they provide you warm blankets and a heating dining hall. Try to pack what is really essential for you.

How to reach Mardi Himal trek from Pokhara and back-

From Kande: Kande is located in the west of Pokhara about an hour’s drive by bus. There are many buses leaves from Pokhara to Baglung highway through Kande so if you just go to the Baglung bus part in Pokhara then you can get easily many buses or taxies to go to Kande. if you take the bus cost 300 Nepali rupee which is about 2.5 USD per head. If you take private transport from Pokhara to Kande that is really comfortable option and on your request drive will stop at some point from where you can observe such breathtaking mountain views and valleys.

If you are looking for a standard Mardi Himal trek to explore beautifully then you are suggested to begin your trek from Kande and end at Kalimati.

From Landruk: Landruk is a beautiful Gurung village in the Annapurna region. if you want to see the real people and their way of living around Annapurna then you can visit Landruk first after that hike to Mardi Himal.

There are few bus leaves from Pokhara Harichok, and Baglung Bus Park to Landruk village but not in monsoon season. The road is not that good for monsoon but in another season you can get into the Bus or Jeep. In general, buses Leaves from Pokhara from 8 am to 10 am. if you are confused still about where to get a bus to Landruk then just ask local taxi drivers they are very well known and they will let you know where to go. taking a public bus to Landruk cost about 5 USD per head similarly taking public jeep service cost 10 to 15 USD per Head.

From Ghandruk: Ghandruk is probably the most popular Gurung village located in the Annapurna trekking region and also the park of Ghorepani poon hill trek. There are many jeeps you can get from Pokhara Harichok to Ghandruk every hour ad also quite some buses. the price of taking a bus from Pokhara to Ghandruk is about 6 USD and Taking a sharing jeep costs 10 USD well as the private reserve jeep to Ghandruk costs about 75 USD.

The trekking starting place Kande, Ghandruk or There are more than 3 entrances to make Mardi Himal trek but the ending place of this trek are Kalimati and Sidding that you customize while you are on the trek with y your guide/porter or local people. The next from Siding or from Kalimati to Pokhara we can’t get local buses but there are many jeeps to go back to Pokhara cost 50 to 60 USD to reserve the whole jeep or if you find some people there to share the price cost 10 USD per Head.

How and where can I get a trekking permit and TIMS card for the Mardi Himal trek:

Mardi Himal trek is in the Annapurna Conservation area which means, like another trek route around the Annapurna region it is the same process to get a permit and TIMS For this trek. Annapurna conservation area permit (ACAP) or TIMS card both are required to make this trek and both are them are easily available in Pokhara or Kathmandu. In Pokhara, there is a Tourism information center which is near the Tourist bus station and about 1 km from Lakeside, Pokhara. Similarly in Kathmandu, you can get these permits from the Nepal tourism board which is about 3 km from the Thamel area. The permit office will be open all days of the week except on public holidays in Nepal.

TIMS card is also another permit for this trek that you can get at the same place where you get your ACAP permit. to get a TIMS card you need to fill up the conservation form which is available in the office you just ask and attach one pp size photograph on it then give it to the person there he will stamp on it and make it very quick.

Steps to get a TIMS card:

First stepYou take your passport with you and fill up the required form provided by the tourism office.

Second stepGive them your pp size photograph along with your form. if you don’t have pp. size photo just go to the next door they will make it very quick photo and cost 3 USD.

Third step: Pay 3000 Nepali rupee for your ACAP permit and 2000 Rupee for TIMS card per head.

Note: if you are taking a guide or porter with you the color of your TIMS card will be blue provided from the Nepal Tourism board similarly if you are trekking on your own then the color of your TIMS card will be green, which means if you are taking guide you should join with local trek/travel agency.

Trek independently or with Guide/Porter

Mardi Himal trek is relatively a moderate trek, where there are many well-marked with white and blue colors similarly there are also wooden made signs pointing the direction where to go to the next so if you are physically fit and have previous trekking experiences than you can make this trek without a guide too but if you are first time hiking or don’t have many experiences than you better to hire a guide or porter. Some guides are really smarts and share much local knowledge regarding the nation, culture, and politics. having a guide is not only to show the route of the trek, but they will also make your trek very comfortable, help you at your every step, feel safer, and especially in high trekking season Oct, Nov and March April they will reserve your accommodation to sleep, which is great.

However, if you are fit enough you think then you can try it it is not that hard and adventure trek otherwise you can have a guide or porter with them, they will make you memorable and meaningful trekking.

Hiring a B grade guide cost:  25 USD a day

Hiring a C Grade guide cost:  20 USD a day

Hiring a porter Cost:  19 USD a day

Accommodation & Food in Mardi Himal trek:

Mardi Himal trekking was camp base trekking few years but now for 4 – 5 years, it is being really popular because it is a very scenic and picturesque trekking route. Now there are plenty of tea houses along the route where there are comfortable private rooms, sharing a gas shower, sharing a big dining hall to eat, and a clean bathroom. If you are trekking to the Mardi Himal route and around then you don’t need to bring anything to sleep or a tent, because there are cheap and private rooms easily available along the trekking route.

If you have a map with you or a lonely planet book there are many things mentioned about the food, trail, and accommodation however, wherever you stay there you have food easily available from the menu. There are quite some varieties of food such as Indian, Nepali local food, Some Chinese, Tibetan, and few continentals.

During this beautiful trek, there are many inn and lodges to eat and sleep but the people who work in the kitchen are not as professional as city cook which means takes some time to cook food thus, if you are eating lunch at the lodge you better to eat something quick like fried Noodles, friend Rice, Thukpa or similar quicker items to save your time.
